Create the Life You Desire-Colleen Stone

Implementing a 20-second burst of courage, whether it involves setting a boundary, saying no, having a difficult conversation, or using your voice in any challenging situation, can have significant psychological and physiological benefits. Here's how:

Psychological Benefits:

  1. Increased Confidence: Taking action, especially in situations that require courage, can boost self-confidence and self-esteem. Each time you assert yourself or stand up for what you believe in, you reinforce a positive self-image and belief in your abilities.

  2. Empowerment: Asserting boundaries or speaking up for yourself can make you feel empowered and in control of your life. It reinforces the idea that you have agency and can actively shape your own experiences and relationships.

  3. Reduced Anxiety: Often, the fear of confrontation or speaking up is more stressful than the actual event itself. By facing your fears and taking action, you can reduce anxiety and build resilience to similar situations in the future.

  4. Improved Communication: Having difficult conversations requires effective communication skills. By practicing assertiveness and expressing your thoughts and feelings openly, you can improve your communication skills and enhance your relationships.

  5. Setting Boundaries: Setting boundaries is crucial for maintaining healthy relationships and protecting your well-being. Asserting boundaries communicates your needs and limits to others, fostering respect and understanding in your interactions.

Physiological Benefits:

  1. Reduced Cortisol Levels: Cortisol is a hormone released in response to stress, and chronically elevated levels can have negative effects on health and well-being. Taking courageous action can help lower cortisol levels by reducing the perceived threat response and promoting a sense of control and empowerment.

  2. Increased Endorphins: Endorphins are neurotransmitters that act as natural painkillers and mood lifters. Taking courageous action can stimulate the release of endorphins, leading to feelings of euphoria and well-being.

  3. Balanced Brain Chemistry: Engaging in courageous behavior can promote a more balanced brain chemistry by regulating the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters are associated with feelings of happiness, pleasure, and reward.

  4. Improved Immune Function: Chronic stress and elevated cortisol levels can weaken the immune system and increase susceptibility to illness. By reducing stress through courageous action, you can support immune function and overall health.

  5. Enhanced Resilience: Facing challenges and overcoming obstacles through acts of courage strengthens resilience—the ability to bounce back from adversity. This resilience can help buffer against future stressors and improve overall psychological well-being.

In summary, implementing a 20-second burst of courage can have profound psychological and physiological benefits, including increased confidence, reduced stress, improved communication, and enhanced well-being. By facing your fears and taking action in challenging situations, you can cultivate resilience, empowerment, and a greater sense of control over your life.

20-Seconds of Courage Burst:

It is tempting to hit the EASY button in life. Avoiding difficult conversations, holding our truth, practicing “people-pleasing,” saying “yes” when I mean to say “no,” and avoiding conflict. With each choice, you give away a part of yourself. With each option, you become less and less of your authentic self. But here's the inspiring part: How easily life can change with little effort is incredible. It may be one 20-second burst of courage that changes the direction of your life. We often avoid these opportunities because they feel like challenges. They can be as simple as saying “No,” committing to say what you mean and mean what you say, and setting a boundary for yourself or others. Get more aware of your stinking thinking and STOP to redirect your thoughts to something that will serve your highest good. Those choices take 20 seconds of courage to decide and implement. Listen to me now, trust me later; committing to 20-second bursts of courage will move the needle in the direction of your life. Your future self is counting on you to love and adore yourself. With 20-Second-Bursts, you are doing something different. This simple change will allow you to embark on the significant journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Choice by choice, you will create a new beginning for creating the life you desire.
